I suppose you could call it that. She was such a great eater at birth, I don't know what happened. It all started at about three weeks or so. She got really fussy when I would try to nurse her and would refuse to eat. Sometimes she would do just fine, sometimes she would start to eat and then start screaming and be done, and sometimes she would just flat out refuse. I took her to see the doctor and she didn't know what to do for her and we tried some Zantac, thinking it might be reflux. That didn't help. I tried gripe water and that didn't help either.
A couple of weeks ago, I took her back to the doctor for her two month check up and she was just crazy. It had been about five hours since she had eaten, but still refused to eat, and she was just inconsoleable. He sent me to the ER at Alamosa to get checked out and she had an x-ray done to see if everything was in its proper place and everything looked fine there. I had gotten her to eat just before that, though, so she was a lot more calm then. She is gaining weight slowly, so that at least was good.
After about two months of this, I was kind of at my wit's end. Something is wrong with her and we need to figure it out. Dr. Franco made a referral up to the GI department at Children's Hospital at Denver. I also decided to take her to see Jan Mortensen, aka the witch doctor, to see if there were any essential oils that could help her. She did kind of an adjustment on her and said that her neck was out of whack and that her stomach was up under her ribs. She also said that she probably had strep and that it was likely her throat hurting that was causing her so much trouble. I have been putting tea tree oil on her feet to help with that and she is doing better. She still wasn't 100% better, though, so we still took her to the GI appointment in Denver.
Her appointement was on Monday, yesterday, so we went up on Sunday and stayed with Alyson and Kirk. The doctor, Deborah Neigut, thought it was probably either reflux or a swallowing problem. She wrote her a prescription for prevacid and told us to try it for a week and see if there is any improvement. We are also going to make an appointment for a swallowing study to see if there are any issues there. Which reminds me, I need to make the call to get that done. Apparently, it takes about a month to get an appointment, so we'll see if the prevacid works while we are waiting for that.
David went to the chiropractor today and told him about London's problems. He told David that he has had a lot of success helping infants with reflux by adjusting them. I made her an appointment at the beginning of May and the soonest one I could get was June 24th! So we'll see if that helps, but I'm not waiting to start the meds until then, like he also suggested to David. If he could see her today, then sure.
